- Nombre común o vulgar: Hibisco, Rosa de China, Pacífico, Cardenales, Flor del beso.

- Familia: Malvaceae.

- Origen: China.

- Dentro del género Hibiscus fundamentalmente hay dos, Rosa de China, descrita anteriormente y Altea también llamada Rosa de Siria (Hibiscus syriacus), esta última es muy parecida a la primera, pero de hoja caduca.

- Arbusto perennifolio.

- Altura: hasta 5 m (menos, en maceta).

- Las hojas son alternas y ovaladas aunque pueden variar e incluso tener los bordes más o menos dentados, el color es verde oscuro y de aspecto brillante.

- Flores solitarias, axilares y en forma de embudo de color rojo, la mayoría de las veces, ya que existen variedades amarillas, rosas, anaranjadas e incluso con flores semidobles.

- En climas subtropicales y tropicales la floracion es continua durante todo el año, en clima continentales es en verano.

- Es una especie muy cultivada por la belleza de sus flores de un precioso color escarlata de cuyo centro salen largos estambres con antenas amarillas.

- Según la variedad las flores pueden ser sencillas o dobles.

- Cada año se incrementa el número de cultivares disponibles.

- Clima cálidos, sin heladas.

- Requiere un lugar soleado, cálido y protegido.

- Requieren suelo fértil, húmedo, bien drenado y rico en nutrientes.
