- hôtel est un vieux mot français désignant une maison où l'on pouvait y accueillir des hostes; (comme dans hospital) le os fut remplacé par ô, castel par château
- n'avait pas, à l'époque, le sens commercial qu'on lui donne de nos jours

1 des 2 palais (96 m de long 25 m de haut) que l'on voit Place de la Concorde (ancienne place LOUIS XV) - construits par Jacques Ange Gabriel (le même architecte qui constuisit l'Ecole Militaire) de 1757 à 1774
A l'origine "garde-meuble" royal (il abritait le mobilier, les tapis, tapissereries, luminaires & objets décoratifs) en 1789 il partage ses locaux avec le Ministère de la Marine
L'Etat Major de la Marine devrait l'avoir quitté en 2015
