One last gasp... - a photo on Flickriver

One last gasp...

            Looking as if it has crawled out of the wreckage and dragged itself away on a broken and twisted limb from the crash site, it looks as if it finally slumped into the ground here as its strength and life eventually gave out. This great Wright Cyclone 18 cylinder radial engine lies where it died 70 years ago, with the other three engines, undercarriage, wing and fuselage sections strewn nearby in this cold and windy aircraft grave 2000 feet up on Bleaklow.

Looking at the engine I found it hard to believe this was early to mid 1930's design. So new in the era of aviation and the combustion engine, yet so sophisticated.

And I wonder, is this the most debris-filled crash site in the UK?

I hate the music on this drone clip but it gives you a better idea of the extent of the crash site and how it has permanently scarred the landscape
