Barley waving

            Don't tell my wife, but after I told her I was on the way home from work, I just had to pull over at the roadside, clamber through some nettles and over a gate and get into a field of barley. You see, it had been waving at me! Out of all the crops I see in the fields it is the barley this farmer's boy loves most. Tall and straight with a fine head of hairs it shimmers like a greeny gold sea in the sunlight, a fresh breeze sending gentle waves through it as the heads dance on their slender stems. And running the palm of your hand across the tops of the crop it feels as soft as the hair on a  babies head, sending tickling sensations through your whole body. I could lie on the dry earth looking skyward, the barley heads above me framing puffy white clouds scudding across my field of vision....all day. Birds passing overhead unaware I'm there until the last moment. looking down saying, What's he doing there? Insects jumping down, climbing up, flitting across my face. The sun warming me through, hidden from the world in a den amongst the barley. A child at heart dreaming that this is all that life needs to be. Happy and fulfilled doing nothing but feeling the earth around me.

But then my phone vibrates in my pocket. Duh. It's my wife. "Where are you?"

Oh well I just wanted to capture some sense of the barley waving... to me.
