An Icelandic Odyssey - a photo on Flickriver

            I was stood before the great sheet of water falling at Skogafoss. It is one of Iceland's most impressive waterfalls, where you see tiny people stood at it's base, a curtain of falling water and ice dropping down the vertical cliff front above.

But I kept sensing something to the side, a dark corner to the right. And when a somewhat weird, pale, young woman with a mass of gingery brown hair stacked on her head wandered to the side, as if she wanted to be away from everyone else, my eyes followed her. And still I sensed something odd about that part of the mountain side, some spirit, without seeing it. Something was there but I did not know what.

Back home my eyes again were drawn to the RAW image I had captured to the side rather than the drama of the waterfall. What was it?

There was the unusual young lady, bottom right, but then it came to life and I realised behind her was the head of a black boar, and next to that a white polar bear's head. And beside that a racing horse's head, and, lower left, a mountain lion's sly eye!

Something in the young woman's behaviour made me wonder if she knew these beasts, mythical creatures of the Viking legends. Somewhere I knew there must be a story......
