Magi McGlynn the hermit - a photo on Flickriver

I don't really do any particular genre of photography do I? I'm a jack of all trades but master of none. But I'm pretty good at stopping someone with an interesting face and talking to them, even total strangers.

I decided to take a walk around the back of where our house is where I had spotted what might be an ice-hockey pitch on Google Earth. Rounding the end of the crescent I spotted these two gents sat in the sun, supping beer, as they nattered away with some cool tunes playing in the background. Some might assume that all the Highlanders around here look like this, but they don't. Not everyday, although I expect to see a few more at the Glengarry Highland Games tomorrow.

I thought I recognised this guy from Youtube playing the boran highland drums. I can't remember which clip I saw him in so can't check, but this guy was pretty deaf from playing them. And as we chatted he started his poetic rant which is here www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsHS4X6JSzg

But he's pretty famous, known as the Bard of the braes of Balquhidder, a man who lives rough in one of Scotland's most spectacular glens and is habitually dressed in a grubby kilt, leather jacket and bonnet and described (fuck knows where) as a modern day cross between William Wallace and Robert Burns. Anyway he's staying up our street. Interesting people in these parts.
