My hero - a photo on Flickriver

My hero

            80 years old, happy as a boy in his work shed, and now building his second live steam locomotive (it took 7 years to build the first), milling each part, piece by piece from solid steel or brass, to the nearest 1000th of an inch. Using skills I will never comprehend, let alone master, my Dad is my hero.

In the foreground 5" gauge "Sybil". Growing up in Shropshire during WWII my father had a special fascination in the Great Western Railway. Having built "Sybil" his next serious project is now to build a 5" guage live steam working model of the Ex- GWR/BR Class 1500 0-6-0 No. 1501. Work is already well advanced on the loco chassis, see top left of picture. No. 1501 has recently been restored to run regularly at the Severn Valley Railway.
