25 May 2021 — North of Englewood, Kansas — Rainbow Grasshopper

            One afternoon in southwest Kansas last month, while waiting for storms to fail to fire, I took a roadside macro tour and ran across this Rainbow Grasshopper (Dactylotum bicolor). No wing pads, so I think it was a juvenile. It was doing its best to rotate away from each angle I tried to get on it. It seems these range into Arizona too, but I haven't seen one out here yet. They're pretty little critters.
