This is at Bardal, Nord Norge. - a photo on Flickriver

            We came up here from Trondelag to find my grandmother's natal home.  And we found it.  Bardal's all igneous rock, sheer mountains, and verdant pastures for sheep. Salmon fishing's the primary local industry, and it seems as if everyone knows everyone else. We met two women who knew about my grandmother's family, and one woman had geneological information for us. Anna Otelia Blyseth was born in this village 8 December 1887. She left aged 18 to make her life and fortune in the Americas. Very cool to be here, and to walk the roads my grandmother would have walked as a young woman. Perhaps the most poignant moment was that of departure, as I wondered - as she would have - whether I'll ever see it again.
