Savoy Cinema, Huddersfield - a photo on Flickriver

Located in the suburb of Marsh, around 1 mile from the town centre, the Savoy Picture House opened on 19th February 1920. By 1930 it had a British Thomson Houston(BTH) sound system and was presenting films and variety. In 1947, it was re-named New Savoy Cinema, and retained that name until at least 1962, when it was listed as the Savoy Cinema. The Savoy was still open in 1966 although it had disappeared from cinema listings by 1980. In 2007, it had become a DIY hardware store and remained so until around 2014 when it was converted into a children’s play-centre.
