The Picture House, Morley - a photo on Flickriver

The Picture House opened on 27th February 1914. On 15th October 1926 a 2 Manual ‘straight organ made by Fitton & Haley of Stanningley was installed and opened by organist Harry Packard.

In May 1930 the Picture House was equipped with a British Thomson Houston (BTH) sound system and “Janet Gaynor in "Sunny Side Up” was the first talky to be shown. It closed in 1962 and was converted into a Fine Fare supermarket. In the 1990’s it became a car showroom for Motor World. Later it became a charity shop for Arthritis Research UK and a Blockbuster Video store.

In 2014 it was acquired by the J.D. Wetherspoon chain of pubs re-opening as the ‘The Picture House’ on 1st December 2014. The original front of the building has sadly been removed.
