Painting an African King - a photo on Flickriver

            Helios 44M-7 at F8. You may think that colonialism and the attempt of the racists at eradicating African history would have done away with royalty in Africa. Not so. This brass figure (Ghana, around 1970) represents the Asantehene, King of the Ashanti. Today as well, there is an Asantehene. In fact, since Ghana's independence in the late 1950s, modern government based on democracy and traditional authority built on the principle of royalty, have lived side by side (just like in Britain). Comfortably.
