With a garland raised from the floor we struck pose and began to fashion a new ad hoc recipe. There was plenty of seasoning and with a generous gas mark noon sunshine to the ongoing alfresco atmosphere. The traditional gate was the old style grill set to thrill for a serving of miles of smiles all round.

This is an album that shows off the gates gives something of their history with more gate and much less Irene.

The gates hold several symbols, letters and dates. The finely detailed imposing figures on the pedestals watch over the closed gates to Arniston House near Gorebridge in Midlothian, Scotland. The figures are often described as Crouching Lions and they also inspire the name of the structure as the Cougar Gates. There is access available through a side gate, but I have never progressed beyond the closed main gates I am always running out of time whilst pleasurably searching for pineapples and looking at the other facets and features in the structure.

The Crouching Lions and their pedestals were transported from a previous setting in Edinburgh. “The pillars of that gate...with the two lions on the top of them, stood in front of Mr. Mitchelson's, afterwards Dr. Bennet's, house, in Nicolson Street, and were purchased by me for twenty guineas. They were erected when I was a boy at the High School about 1766 or 1767,” from the Arniston Memoirs of Lord Chief Baron Robert Dundas, (1758-1819). The iron work still holds the following details, “1W8,” and, “2D4,” denoting William Dundas and the date1824.
