            In the city of Charleroi, Belgium, public transport is partly provided by a pre-metro network (Métro Léger de Charleroi ). It’s  a 25 km express tram network, consisting of a horseshoe-shaped line around central Charleroi and two extensions or branches. It was built between 1976 and 1996 and has 26 stations. 

The original plans were very extensive, but were abandoned due to high costs and low passenger numbers. Some largely completed sections have never been opened. Therefore the system is also known as “Grand Travail Inutile”; translated:  “A white elephant”.

The station “Beaux Arts” is one of the two main stations. In it there are two museum trams cars displayed. The first one is a Motrice/Motor car 310 build in 1920. But just like the general state of the whole tram network, they are in really bad shape. They serve primarily as a shelter for pigeons and all that comes with them.
