Fingerprint for Deventer and by it’s people…

            The town hall quarter in Deventer unites the old historic town hall with a new municipal office. The new building complex is located on the Grote Kerkhof and extends to the Burseplein. The project includes a total of 24,000 m2, of which 20,000 m2 is new construction and 4,000 m2 is renovated, restoring and making existing national monuments more sustainable. The design for the town hall quarter is in line with the typical Deventer urban structure of gardens and gardens courtyards connected by paths, alleys, corridors and gates.

The filigree facades consist of a grid of oak frames of various sizes. The oak framework offers space for an integrated application of art in architecture. In collaboration with the artist Loes ten Anscher, a series of grids were designed for the oak frames: 2,264 unique fingerprints of 2,264 residents of Deventer were cast in aluminium. Spread over the outside and the interior facades of the building, they together form one large work of art. The visible presence of the residents of Deventer in the facade make the town hall quarter the 'House of the Citizens'

Neutelings Riedijk Architects have been working on the Deventer City Hall project for ten years. In 2006, they made the winning design in the context of a European tender. Michiel Riedijk: 'At the time, the program comprised three underground parking levels, the town hall and the library. The volume was therefore much larger and a large dome topped the building. The population of Deventer revolted – because it was too expensive and too large – and the municipality gave in. We were commissioned to create a new design without that parking garage.”

Technical stuff
This a single shot photo. At 1250ISO, f8.0, -2/3, 1/550 and 18 mils. I chose for a rather ISO setting because I already thought this shot would be best in black-and-white. And the rather high ISO helps with creating a little grain. Of course one can use LR or the Silver Efex software, but having more options is kind a nice, right!?
Next to a conversion to black-and-white in LR, this is a plain and simple photo. Finally, I added the copyright signs (in Photoshop). The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the frequent copying of my photos. So, don't bother commenting on that.
