Bald Eagle - a photo on Flickriver

Bald Eagle

            We found this eagle on the beach in Ninilichik Alaska. As we walked down the beach closer to the eagle, it showed no signs of flight. With each few steps, would snap a few more photos of this beautiful bird. As we got closer, we, (my wife and I) noticed that there was a dark spot on the eagle's forehead. It turned out to be dried up blood, evidently, the eagle had foraged on carrion that was bloody. I love the eagle's talons in this photo as well. It is obvious the talons can rip and shred meat easily. The eagle never did fly away, we passed within 25 feet of it on the way down the beach and on the way back to our truck as well. Another memory buried away in our wildlife adventures.
