Chromatic Masterwort Set IV - a photo on Flickriver

            This masterwork set is based on a capture of an Astrantia flower in a garden that I visited while on holiday in Dorset, UK. Astrantias are also known as masterworts, and they have a lovely symmetric flower head. 

The image I used wasn’t one of the better ones… so suitable for mucking around with for Sliders Sunday, or so the thinking goes. Really the set just records the journey of that messing around. I’ll include a link to the in-camera image in the first comment.

Here are notes on the variations:
1 - This is the ‘proper’ edit, though fairly messed about with even then. I used an Orton effect created in Affinity (I can send you the macro for this if you wish) and then added a super-Orton style effect with Nik Color Efex.
2 - This is probably my favourite (for this minute anyway) of the unreal edits. Color Efex has been used again to change the colours.
3 - Next there are three edits based on V1 with a surreal look. All were created by taking v1 and duplicating it twice. The top two layers had their blend modes switched to Difference and then each of the top layers was transformed (stretched and rotated) to create a difference for the blend mode to show. This creates a dark brightly coloured effect. I then used an Invert adjustment on both the Difference layers which lightened everything and change the hues.
4 - This version was the same as v3 using v2 as the base layer (rather than v1). 
5 - This version is the same as v4 but with one of the invert adjustment layers turned off. It’s well into colour-blast territory so I’ll post it into the Sliders Sunday group.

I usually create all the versions in the same editing file. Affinity gives each non-destructive adjustment its own layer with a mask, blend mode and opacity parameters, so much of my playtime was just switching layers on or off. You can record the layer states (whether layers in the file are visible or not) and so it’s pretty easy to remember which layers contributed to each version by recalling a saved layer state.

Producing five versions is more a sign of indecision on my part rather than an excess of creativity. Which version do you prefer (if any! lol)?
