Organic Weaving

This is the penultimate batch for my 2023 100x project. Nearly there! They were all taken last year and processed recently.

#93 Art Portal. This is another three-image multiple exposure using three ICM movements, taken in November. The subject is a doorway in the old red brick wall of the village pub car park which has featured before (see flic.kr/p/2ohAWNn ). These multiple exposures tend to be low-contrast grey images because of all the averaging that is going on so my favourite technique in processing them is to ramp up the colour and heavily sharpen them to bring out the textures (using High Pass, Unsharp Mask and Clarity adjustments).

#94 Organic Weaving. One of my enjoyable discoveries this year with this project is these weaving effects you can get by taking two or three ICMs (in Lighten or Darken blend modes in-camera, depending on the subject) of subjects with patterns of relatively high contrast (like dots of light shining through a tree canopy or bracken). If you process them as described above you can get multi-layered textures. The subject here is grass I think though it may be a bush. It was taken in November.

#95 Shapes of Summer. This is another of those experiments which looked interesting though I didn’t end up exploring the technique too much this year. It’s a two-image in-camera multiple exposure using Lighten blend mode (I think). There are two subjects: a red-leaved photinia tree and the pendular cherry flowers of the Shirofugen tree, both on my patio. It’s given a curious pattern of leaves and flowers with a mixed-up abstract arty feel. This was taken at the beginning of May.

#96 Natural Zoom. It’s not a zoom at all but a straight still shot focused on the centre of a purple allium pompom flower. It was taken in June. This shot is a bit tricky to get right - I’ve tried several times on different occasions with mixed success, but this one worked out ok. You need to bully the camera to focus on the centre.
