In Finland a church ship has never been officially and literally taken a votive gift. This ship p.ex. was donated by young men of Luonnonmaa Island to the Church of Naantali “yhdexi koristuxexi ja Jumalan huoneen kaunistuxexi” in 1824, it means: for a decoration and adornment of God’s Temple.

I don’t know anything about the model’s example, but I have an unclear idea that it would have been a whaler. That would be odd because the Finns have never practised whaling – and would a whaler be so heavily armed like this ship?

And how can she be named Fred? Except on the basis of the meaning of the Swedish word "fred" (long é sound): Peace.
