SANTIAGO CHURCH, CARRION DE LOS CONDES, SPAIN, 2012

This is the facade of the Church of Santiago in Carrión de los Condes (Palencia, Spain).

Here you can see the typical Christian symbolic representation in reliefs and paintings of churches and medieval cathedrals.

You can see God Almighty (Pantocrator) that appears surrounded by 4 images symbolizing the four evangelists (Tetramorph). A winged human image depicts Matthew and three animal symbols: Luke as the Bull, Mark as the Lion and John as the Eagle.

But that symbolism was created well ahead of Christianity.

You can find it Egyptian, Greek, and Assyrian mythology.

One of the places you can find it is in the Egyptian temple of Kom Ombo. near the Sancta Santorum. (Source: Wikipedia.)

Esta es la fachada de la Iglesia de Santiago en Carrión de los Condes (Palencia, España).

Aquí se puede ver la típica representación simbólica cristiana en los relieves y pinturas de las iglesias y catedrales medievales.

Se puede ver a Dios Todopoderoso (Pantocrátor) que aparece rodeado de 4 imágenes que simbolizan a los cuatro evangelistas (Tetramorfos). Una imagen humana alada representa a Mateo y tres símbolos animales: Lucas como el Toro, Marcos como el León y Juan como el Águila.

Pero este simbolismo se creó mucho antes del cristianismo.

Se puede encontrar en la mitología egipcia, griega y asiria.

Uno de los lugares donde se puede encontrar es en el templo egipcio de Kom Ombo. cerca del Sancta Santorum. (Fuente: Wikipedia.)
