WAITING FOR THE PROCLAMATION OF MEDIEVAL FESTIVITIES TO BEGIN

A few hundred people gradually gather in the square of Fray Anselmo Polanco to hear the municipal proclamation with which the Medieval Festivities are officially inaugurated in the city of Teruel, Aragon, Spain. Normally people who read the proclamation are usually a person of some notoriety related in some way to the city and usually attend the ceremony accompanied by local authorities, such as the mayor and a delegate of the central and / or regional government, etc.

Around 1997 the tradition of medieval festivities began in Teruel, based on the ancient legend (year 1217) of "Los Amantes de Teruel" ("Teruel Lovers") that tells the tragic love story between two young turolenses, Isabel de Segura and Juan Martínez de Marcilla, also identified as Diego de Marcilla. The legend is similar to Shakespeare's drama "Romeo and Juliet," with two powerful families facing each other and a tragic ending. (Picture taken on year 2007)
