TOWN OF CALATANIAZOR, SORIA, SPAIN - a photo on Flickriver

            View of the Royal Street (esp: Calle Real) of Calatañazor. This small town preserves the typical Castilian medieval architecture on its houses, which are very pleasant to visit. It retains its main castle, in a state of ruin, part of the wall that surrounded the city and some churches and stately homes. It has been a real location of many films, one of which was "Chimes at Midnight" directed by Orson Welles (Year 1966).

The official census establishes that in 2010 the total population of this city was 70 registered people.

Tradition states that not far from here, in a nearby valley, the battle of Calatañazor took place between Christian forces and forces of the Caliphate of Cordoba, commanded by the Muslim leader Almansur (esp: Almanzor), who lost his life there, because of the injuries received during that battle. Year 1002 AD. However, there are no documentary references, nor any chronicle confirming the existence of that battle. Most historians argue that it must be a simple legend, a statement that is annoying for people in the area, logically.
