DOOR KNOCKER (2006)

The Spanish word for "Door Knocker" is "Aldaba".

The etymology of knocker takes us to classical Arabic, to a term that can be translated as "lizard".

A knocker is a metallic element that is installed on a door so that a person can knock with it to announce his arrival.

Originally, door knockers were often shaped like reptiles, hence their etymological root.

Historians indicate that door knockers emerged in the Middle Ages. They usually consisted of an iron ring attached to a bronze head.

The subject who arrived at a place and found the door closed, could take the ring and hit it against the door.

In this way, it caused a noise that was heard by those inside the place. The knockers also functioned as handles to open the door in question.

German professor Franz Sales Meyer distinguished three kinds of door knocker: the "ring", the "hammer", and an ornate category which could take the shape of an animal or another figure. (Source: Wikipedia)
