OTOÑO, AUTOMNE, AUTUMN, HERBST, 2021

            Autumn, also known as "fall" in North American English, is one of the four temperate seasons. Outside the tropics, autumn marks the transition from summer to winter, in September (Northern Hemisphere) or March (Southern Hemisphere).

Autumn is the season when the duration of daylight becomes noticeably shorter and the temperature cools considerably.

Day length decreases and night length increases as the season progresses until the Winter Solstice in December (Northern Hemisphere) and June (Southern Hemisphere).

One of its main features in temperate climates is the striking change in colour for the leaves of deciduous trees as they prepare to shed.

Some cultures regard the autumnal equinox as "mid-autumn", while others with a longer temperature lag treat the equinox as the start of autumn.

In the English-speaking world, autumn traditionally began with Lammas Day and ended around Hallowe'en, the approximate mid-points between midsummer, the autumnal equinox, and midwinter. Meteorologists (and Australia and most of the temperate countries in the southern hemisphere) use a definition based on Gregorian calendar months, with autumn being September, October, and November in the northern hemisphere, and March, April, and May in the southern hemisphere. El otoño, también conocido como "fall" en inglés norteamericano, es una de las cuatro estaciones templadas. Fuera de los trópicos, el otoño marca la transición del verano al invierno, en septiembre (hemisferio norte) o marzo (hemisferio sur).

El otoño es la estación en la que la duración de la luz del día se acorta notablemente y la temperatura se enfría considerablemente.

La duración del día disminuye y la de la noche aumenta a medida que avanza la estación hasta el solsticio de invierno, en diciembre (hemisferio norte) y junio (hemisferio sur).

Una de sus principales características en los climas templados es el llamativo cambio de color de las hojas de los árboles caducifolios cuando se preparan para mudarse.

Algunas culturas consideran el equinoccio de otoño como la "mitad del otoño", mientras que otras con un mayor desfase de temperaturas tratan el equinoccio como el comienzo del otoño.

En el mundo anglosajón, el otoño comenzaba tradicionalmente con el día de Lammas y terminaba alrededor de Hallowe'en, los puntos medios aproximados entre el pleno verano, el equinoccio de otoño y el pleno invierno.

Los meteorólogos (y Australia y la mayoría de los países templados del hemisferio sur) utilizan una definición basada en los meses del calendario gregoriano, siendo el otoño septiembre, octubre y noviembre en el hemisferio norte, y marzo, abril y mayo en el hemisferio sur. (Fuente: Wikipedia)
