A quiet sanctum

            A lovely side canyon along Havasu Creek is a short distance downstream of Mooney Falls. With its verdant plant life contrasting with vertical red cliffs, it provides a pleasant place to rest and look for photogenic comps. The gentle trickling sounds of a small stream add to the feeling of being in a nature sanctuary. 

The times I have entered this place I've had it to myself, despite dozens of noisy swimmers at the falls just 200 yards away. The walls of this side canyon block the noise. Ash Canyon is only about 100 yards in length before ending in a dry fall. A spring emerges from its base and flows into Havasu Creek in a shower-like waterfall.
