Mediastinal mature cystic teratoma - a photo on Flickriver

            Mediastinal teratomas usually arise in the anterior mediastinum; some arise within the thymus and rarely in the posterior mediastinum. Pure teratomas account for 58% of all mediastinal germ cell tumors in prepubertal patients and 60-93% in post pubertal patients. Mature teratomas are usually encapsulated masses. Cut surface shows unilocular or multilocular cysts that contain clear fluid, mucoid material, sebaceous and keratinaceous debris, hair, fat, cartilage, teeth, or bone.
