Through Your Eyes

            The Sunlander pauses at Rockhampton Station to pick-up/set down passengers and take fuel before continuing north towards Cairns overnight.

I remember being a young child and I can still remember that feeling of awe and mystery when I saw the long distance trains arriving or departing at Sydneys Central Station. I never got to see the loco-hauled interstaters or even the regional services. Just seeing the intercity trains with the gleaming stainless steel carriages and their golden tinted windows... Something about these trains going on long journeys to far off destinations where the wires ended... That magic captured my imagination and piqued my curiosity.

With the freedoms that adulthood has brought, I've visited a lot of places by car, train and plane. The mystery is gone. The wonderment has died in my eyes. Now I simply see these trains as a way of getting places. Even trains like The Sunlander, which was a wonderful experience, is simply a train.

I wanted to include the boys family in the frame, saying farewell to a friend or relative, but was unable to fit them in the shot (itself a hasty grab shot whilst walking down the platform back to my own compartment). You can catch a glimpse of them in the window to the left of frame however.

To view the world, or even just the railways through this boys eyes once more. That would be something special.
