“Pegasus” Diesel Cargo Helicopter Mk. XXVII (front)

The product of an initial foray into aircraft design by the outfit responsible for creating the Courser auto truck, the ponderous Pegasus was slower through the air than its land-based cousin was over even ground. It was redeemed, however, by its ability to fly over geographical obstacles that would confound wheeled vehicles. The Pegasus also had a lighter load capacity than the Courser, but made up for this disadvantage by providing a more voluminous cargo space. Because the difficulties of controlling the ungainly Pegasus became more acute while landing, automotive-scale wheels and massive shock absorbers were fitted in later iterations to cushion the rougher touchdowns.

The Pegasus was a rare sight among post-conflict adventurers; surplus craft could only be afforded by the more exceptionally-funded expeditions and even then more often through government hire than by purchase.
