First Find! - a photo on Flickriver

First Find!

Yesterday a new bird photography friend visited our island, and we photographed courting common terns below our house together (my best ones so far), lapwings (and I found one of the ringed ones I've looked for that comes back for breeding on the exact same field!), and many other birds.

On our way back, we stopped by a field close to our home, to look for rings on the lesser black-backed gulls (which I found. They always have interesting registrations.).

But - as I looked at the seagulls- my friend Arne said look right in front of you- there's a dotterel, no two!

I almost didn't believe it, but it was true. And they were sooo easy to overlook so it was just a big luck that we stopped to check the seagulls.

They were not just my first Eurasian dotterels (Eudromias morinellus) - but our municipality's very first ones ever as well!

Of the four municipalities in our region, only one of the other ones has had three dotterel visits ever. Fun!

Yesterday there was so much heat coming from the ground, that I didn't get perfectly sharp photos. I have had to sharpen them a lot in post, like this one.

But they were here today as well, in colder weather, and I got sooo good photos of them. I really look forward to get the time to edit and show them!
