Jane Bald on Roan Mountain - a photo on Flickriver

Another photo from a hike on Roan Mountain on June 12. This is the iconic photo op at Jane Bald. Great sunset photos are available from here but we weren't able to stay. We did meet about 8 hardy photographers already positioned there. One being Flickr friend, Mark Van Dyke. Please see his work if you haven't already.

This view is back toward Round Bald. Most of the hike uses the Appalachian Trail starting at Carvers Gap. The hike is on the Tennessee / North Carolina border.

During the hike, there were two rain showers. But once we reached Jane Bald on the way out, the skies opened up. That meant hiking out nearly two miles in pouring rain. We did manage to keep our gear dry. But I wonder how the sunset photographers did.
