Smoky Autumn Beauty - a photo on Flickriver

Took a late season hike to Spruce Flats Falls earlier this week hoping to catch some remaining autumn color.

Much of the color in the Smoky's was very muted if any leaves remained at all. There were pockets of nice color however. I had wanted to get to Spruce Flats earlier but weather and my calendar couldn't accommodate it.

The weather this day cooperated with overcast skies and light breeze. Some good color remained on a tree to the immediate left of the falls. But water flow was greatly diminished so full front shots didn't look all that great. So I moved in close to the falls and used my wide angle lens to get the color in the trees in the shot. So overall, it was a successful day at the waterfall.

The hike to Spruce Flats starts at the Great Smoky Mountain Institute in Tremont. The hike is 2.2 miles roundtrip and is moderately difficult.
