Big big babies

            It's the Harbourside eaglets again!  They're absolutely enormous, as big as their parents now, but reluctant to leave the big comfy nest as long as Mom & Dad are taking care of them (such is life in many species). Once the kids prove they can fly, they'll be on their own for finding food, and will leave the area for the season in search of salmon streams and other good pickings for beginners.

I just read that it's not terribly common for bald eagles to successfully raise & fledge all the chicks in a clutch of three -- their parents must be highly skilled hunters, not to mention savvy nest location pickers, to ensure plentiful food for the whole family, not just the dominant child. Well done, breeding pair!

It's been a pleasure to watch these three grow up. I feel very lucky to live so close to them. I'll sure miss them when they're gone!
