Built in 1650, the Catholic Parish Church of Santa Monica in Minalin remains one of the most beautiful churches in the country.

Minalin, Pampanga, Philippines

The church features a unique façade, designed like a gigantic retablo. Complemented with a short row of balusters, the structure’s peeled finishing reveals the original red brick walls, giving the church its unique old-rose touches. The semi-circular niches hold painted stone statues of various Augustinian saints, harmoniously designed to blend with the rose windows.

Flanking the church are two hexagonal four-story bell towers, with four century-old bells dated from 1850 to 1877.

The main entrance and windows are bordered with a floral décor evocative of early folk altars. Corinthian columns act as support to the triangular pediment that is topped with a lantern-like kampanilya. On one wall of the church can be found a 1619 mural featuring natïve drawings of mysterious origins.
