Let the night sky fall - a photo on Flickriver

            85 Vauxhall Cross - ironically now famous the world over as the headquarters of Britain's Secret Intelligence Service, MI6, thanks to its appearances in several 007 films - besides the River Thames and Vauxhall Bridge in London, at night. This building, designed by Sir Terry Farrell and built by John Laing, became MI6's main base in 1995. The offices have been featured in the James Bond films GoldenEye, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day and Skyfall; in The World Is Not Enough and Skyfall, it was the scene of bombings. An attack has happened in real life; on the evening of September 20, 2000, the building was attacked using a Russian-built RPG-22 anti-tank rocket fired over the river (from the spot where this picture was taken). It struck the eighth floor but only caused superficial damage. The Anti-Terrorist branch of the Metropolitan Police attributed responsibility to the Real IRA.

To its right are Vauxhall Bridge, opened in 1906, and the under-construction St George Wharf Tower, also known as the Vauxhall Tower or The Tower. When finished, it will be 181 metres (594 feet) tall with 50 storeys, making it the tallest solely residential building in the UK. The construction crane visible by its side was hit by a helicopter during heavy fog in January 2013, causing the death of the pilot and a person on the ground.
