Exuvia de Libelula

La exuvia es la cutícula o cubierta exterior (exoesqueleto), abandonada por los artrópodos (insectos, crustáceos o arácnidos) tras la muda. La exuvia de un artrópodo puede ser muy útil para identificar la especie o incluso el sexo del animal.1 2
No siempre es práctico estudiar insectos, crustáceos o arácnidos directamente; en ocasiones es más fácil recoger y estudiar sus exuvias con las que se pueden determinar algunos aspectos generales de su ciclo biológico, su distribución, número de individuos por sexo, poblaciones presentes en un ecosistema, etc.
