Ollivant tile backs - a photo on Flickriver

Henry Abraham Ollivant set up at at the Etruscan Tile Works in around 1893 and made tiles until around 1910, though the firm was in existence until the 1930s. The products were transfer printed and moulded tiles that were workmanlike but not innovative, and were presumably priced as such. Over 30 designs were registered, but fortunately the tiles are marked with a monogram that looks like COV but is actually OCV for Ollivant of Cliff Vale. The registered designs were. with two exceptions, for the moulded range and the white flowers on brown background is 483225.

You can see that transfer printed tiles were mostly on six rail backs with OCV and a pattern number printed in black, later tiles had the monogram moulded into one of the gutters, sometimes with a moulded registration number.
