Escape reef..Ships log..view to the mainland.

                This year during 25 knot SE's we happened on a lone  bommie on the western side of Escape reef  in 25 me that had it all. Superb heathy corals of all sorts ,a lush  canyon full of glorious gorgonians , , an excellent wall, and a superb population of reef fish  and multitudes of bait fish surrounded by palagics .. Out to sea we could a Humpback whale with its calf and one day a big  Minke whale payed us a flirting visit. What  a gem of a dive location  :)  All by its lonesome,  not another bommie for maybe 500 me. It was easy to drop the pick and allow the boat to fall back near it  for easy diving access .  We stopped there  5 days. It was one of those little spots once discovered u just do not want to  leave !!! Scuba, hookah, macro and wide angle. ....Gentle currents  nourishing  the reef but not to strong to cause divers difficulty... Reasonable well sheltered with a good thick reef between us and the open ocean swell ... No problems in the 20- 25 knot trade winds whilst we were there .A great spot for a few days  getaway when at port Douglas or yorkeys knob or as a stop over  on the way up the ribbons .    :)
