"Epitaph of the tomb of Hendrik III van Witthem and Isabella van der Spout

Here lies Hendrik van Witthem, Lord of Beersel, in his time "Good Knight of Honour". He was - by God's Grace - also Lord of Bautersem, Brakel and Overijse ; defender of the church rights of Couvin, as well as those of Plancenoit, Schoutrine and Ruisbroek. 
As a governor and first chamberlain of the king, praised by everyone, even by the least officer, he was after this the "second knight of the Golden Fleece". He meticulously governed the royal house, after Philip entrusted his treasury upon him, as well as his noble son and daughter, and left for Castile.
The exemplary education he gave to the young prince and ladies gave him the right to be honoured as a "holy soul".
He died and gave his soul to God on the 17th of September 1515, at 5 o'clock in the morning. His very devout companion and wife Isabella Despout lies beside him. She died on the 10th of June 1503, at 10 o'clock in the morning. God have mercy upon their souls. Thank you for your pity."

"Monument to Hendrik III van Witthem and Isabella van der Spout

Hendrik III van Witthem, Lord of Beersel and Knight of the golden Fleece was chamberlain of Maximilian of Austria. He died on the 17th of September 1515 and was buried in this church.
His tomb was broken up after the church fire of 1730 and reused as foundation material for the rebuilding of the new church.
When the Chapel of Our Lady was demolished in 1919, the fragments were refound and the original tomb could largely be put together again.
The epitaph (inscription) that borders the tomb is in "old French". Note that the coat of arms is decorated with the chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece."
