Die gewaltigen Dachstein Südwände im späten Herbst. Der Gipfel des Hohen Dachsteins (links, 2995 m) liegt auf knapp 3000 m;  die Wände reichen an ihrer tiefsten Stelle hinunter bis zu Almböden auf 1800 m; dazwischen 1200 m hoher, grauer, teilweise gebänderter Kalkfels, davon die oberen 800 m Wandhöhe pure Genusskletterei. Davor die Südwandhütte auf 1910 m Seehöhe am obersten begrünten Hügel. Die Südwandhütte mit ihren zwei Etagen ist mitsamt dem Dach etwa 10 m hoch, die genussreiche Kletterhöhe ist also locker 80 mal so hoch wie die Südwandhütte ! Das sind schon gewaltige Dimensionen !

The mighty Dachstein south walls in late autumn. The summit of the Hoher Dachstein (left, 2995 m) lies at just under 3000 m; at their lowest point, the walls reach down to alpine pastures at 1800 m; in between 1200 m of high, grey, partly banded limestone rock, of which the upper 800 m of wall height is pure climbing pleasure. In front of it the refuge Südwandhütte at 1910 m above sea level on the uppermost grassy hill. The refuge Südwandhütte with its two floors is about 10 m high including the roof, so the enjoyable climbing height is easily 80 times as high as the Südwandhütte ! These are already enormous dimensions !
