Chicken feet by Peter Cheney - a photo on Flickriver

The Chicken Feet are an outgrowth of a theme that seems to just not want to go away. It started with a painting of a rooster, and then morphed into building Baba-Yaga Houses, and is now simmered down to the feet. Hopefully they suggest the presence of the whole bird, a forty foot tall chicken emerging from the woods.
Baba-Yaga is a Witch from Eastern European/Russian folklore. She lives in a house that stands on chicken feet. Though often used as a cautionary tale, the Baba-Yaga stories vary quite a bit. She might help you, she might eat you, you might never find her at all. I find the moral ambiguity very appealing.

Originally from Bergen County, New Jersey, Peter Cheney has been living and working in Nyack New York since 1995. Painting, sculpture, photography, and most recently a combination of the three, occupy much of his time.
