A couple of weeks ago, I went for an early morning birding trip to a local lake. I had visited the place previously in late winter and didn’t have much luck with observing birds. I was a bit skeptical about seeing any birds, but that fear was misplaced. As soon as I got out of the car, I saw an eastern kingbird. Eastern Kingbirds are pretty common in the summer, but this was the first one I saw this year. He was pretty active, flying around and feeding on the tiny insects floating all around us. I noticed that he seemed to have a favorite perch that he kept in his flight path. I focused on the perch and set the recall memory on my lens at the branch. As he flew to the perch, I pressed the recall button and started to shoot. It looked like the trick worked, but I was reluctant to hope. When I got home, I immediately checked on my monitor, and all the images in the series were tack sharp. Whoever invented this technique, I am eternally grateful.
