While we were at the White Sands National Park last year, I hoped for a great sunset shot with a glorious sky full of colors. We were only at the park for two days, and it seemed like we would not be able to see a decent sunset, but on our last evening, the cloud cover started to break, and we started to see some blue sky. Ever the hopeful photographer, I began to look for good spots. I found a location far away from the crowds and was sure of getting a couple of decent compositions of unspoiled dunes. Unfortunately, there was still plenty of cloud cover come sunset, and the composition I had planned didn’t get any light. The few wisps of color we saw that day were towards the trail with dunes full of foot marks. Thankfully it looked like in images set far from the dunes, the white color of the dunes does not allow the footmarks to be distracting, for which I am incredibly thankful.
