Commemorative Air Force Corsair Taxiing

            I think the pilot is leaning to his right to get a better view of what's ahead of him. The Corsair's long nose makes it challenging for pilots to see what is ahead on the ground.

During World War II, when Chance Vought could not produce enough F-4U Corsairs, Goodyear received a contract to produce aircraft using that design. This Goodyear FG-1D Corsair (registration N9964Z, Bureau Number 92468) was built in July, 1945 and left military service in 1956. It joined the Confederate Air Force (forerunner to the Commemorative Air Force) in 1960. Its paint scheme depicts a plane with Marine Fighter Squadron 312 (VMF-312), which flew Corsairs in World War II and the Korean War. The squadron’s nickname is the “Checkerboards,” hence the checkerboard pattern on the nose and tail.
