2007 Stone Mt Covered Bridge, Stone Mt, GA

            The Stone Mountain Bridge was built in 1891 and originally located in Clarke County, GA and was used as a connection between College and Hobson Avenues, crossing over the Oconee River.  It was known as Effie’s Bridge and also as College Avenue Bridge.   In 1963 the bridge was declared unsafe due to flood damage, and closed. On February 18th, 1964 the bridge was sold and moved to its new site in Stone Mountain Park.  The original bridge was 162 feet long but for the move, 30 feet of the bridge was removed bringing the bridge to its current size of 151 feet.
