143/365 - ah go on, go on , go on . . . .

            Ireland is going to the polls on Friday to vote on whether to repeal the 8th amendment which was put in place in 1983. The amendment gives equal rights to the unborn and with due regard, equal right to life of the mother.

Basically it outlaws abortion in Ireland even under horrendous circumstances including victims of rape, incest and fatal fetal abnormalities. 

When you hear the stories of how terribly wrong pregnancy can go for some people and you hear that this antiquated law is causing suffering and pain to thousands of women that end up travelling to the UK for medical help they should be getting at home.

Hearing these stories i realise how blessed and lucky I have been and my heart goes out to anyone facing such a dark time. 

Voting yes won't stop the suffering but it might go a little way to giving help to people in what must be their darkest hour.
