            Barbara Shaum was an amazing woman that I knew in New York. She makes custom sandals at a small shop in East Village in New York. She made my sandals — one of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn in my life. 

The process was something like this — 

1. You go to the shop and her assistant would draw an outline of your feet on a cardboard. 
2. You would pick a style, or you can design something from scratch. 
3. They will work on the sandal, then they’ll call you for a custom fitting.
4. They call you back for final pick up.

I never wore sandals before these — so I had no idea what I was in for. I finally understood what the girls meant by “breaking in”. Wow these things hurt like hell for the first month, but then it became the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn in my life. I wore them everywhere. Considering how long they also lasted, it’s decently affordable. I believe that this pair lasted for a good decade before they finally let out.

Seen with some random buttternut squash soup in a plastic container. Don’t ask. I don’t know how to explain why I even took this photo.
