SML in Motion / SML Me (See-ming Lee 李思明) / SML.20130723.6D.21600.L1

I have done multi-strobes in the studio before [1], but mostly by moving my hands because I can see the results better in my head. But recently I saw a hyperrealist painting by 李永斌 Li Yongbin at Art Basel Hong Kong 2013 [1], which depicts an artist’s face in multiple stages. I thought that it was interesting, so I created a series of self-portraits by moving my head around. Here is one such result.

Interestingly, the imperfect black canvas actually created a somewhat painterly effect which I liked — sometimes imperfection has its purpose, I guess?

Manual exposed at ISO 400, 104mm, f/7.1, 1.0 sec — when multi is at 10Hz you are effectively seeing 10 exposures of me in a single capture.
