            It was pretty crowded inside Shanghai Hongquiao train station-
school holidays, and a lot of China out on the road, coupled with a local festival just round the corner. My friends had already done all the bookings online, so buying tickets was not an issue, but they did need to collect the printouts from the counter. I had to give my passport to my friend Xiachuan (Jane) as she had to produce that for a 'foreigner' ticket- mine. I think she ran off to the last counter, at the far end. I offered to help but she would have none of it. It would be rather difficult for a foreigner to travel by train in China as almost all of the signage is in Chinese, and no one around seems to speak English! (Shanghai/ Hangzhou, China, May 2017)
