Local transportation around the palace was by beca (trishaw)

            As I mentioned in one of my previous captions, the Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace is a fairly large complex with several buildings and enclosed by a large boundary wall around the entire complex. Many of the buildings are closed to the public as some of the royal family still live in the palace. It is impossible to walk the grounds and taking your car beyond this point is not allowed, so we had to either take one of these becas (trishaws) or a pony trap. There were no pony traps around, so we hired these becas. Each can seat only one passenger, so it was one each for me and my driver guide. (Surakarta/ Solo, Indonesia, May 2018)
