I sincerely apologize for not practising what I preach

            Now there comes my ride- they had to send for this elephant later as I was the only guest still left and all the other elephants have already departed. I sincerely apologize for not practicing what I preach and going on one of these goofy rides- I have serious reservations about riding elephants and the permanent damages it causes to their backbone. I still cannot figure out what came over me and caused me to take the ride- it was probably the glib talking by the ticketing clerk and my guide, and the fact that the elephant ride- safari tram (bus) combo was the best value for money among the various tariff options. Oh well, I assure you it will not happen again. If it was any consolation, I was the only passenger on this ride, apart from the slightly built mahout or keeper. (Bali, Indonesia, May 2018)
